Dedicated to discovering and showcasing the
best filmmaking talent from around the world

Colchester Film Festival (19th-24th Oct) is an international film festival that takes in Colchester’s firstsite arts gallery annually in October.

The festival gives you the chance to watch the best new feature and short films from some of the finest filmmakers across the globe, including World, European and UK premieres. We pride ourselves on curating an eclectic yet accessible programme with something for everyone to enjoy.

Alongside the films we feature a programme of workshops and master classes from top film industry professionals. Previous guest speakers have included including Academy Award and BAFTA winning producers, directors, writers and actors. Our aim is to give audiences an insight into the creative process behind film production and to inspire the next generation of filmmaking talent.

Short and Feature film submissions for this year’s festival are open from the 1 February – 1 July 2014 and it’s completely FREE to submit your film until 1 June.

Colchester Film Festival hosts a global 60 Hour Film Challenge that takes place from the 2nd – 5th October 2015 and is FREE for anyone to enter.

We challenge filmmakers from around the world to write, shoot and edit a film no longer than 5 minutes in just 60 hours. All the filmmakers are given is a title, line of dialogue and a prop/action that has to be included in the final film. The rest is up to you. It can be any genre or style so let get your creative juices flowing and produce a masterpiece.

The winners and runners up of the challenge will receive a variety of prizes from some of the world’s biggest film equipment and software manufactures worth more than £5,000 and the top ten films will be screened at the 2015 Colchester Film Festival on Saturday the 24th of October. Previous winners have gone onto achieve unprecedented success, direct feature films and get noticed by major production companies.

Registration for the 60 Hour Film Challenge will open on June 1st.
